i didnt read it, but i gave it to a friend for his birthday - used to own it ages ago, along with books of his actual reviews, essays etc.

He was an awesome mad puppydog drug fiend of a music lover, and the blueprint of all 'rock writing' since the 1970s. had a love/hate thing going on with lou reed [who doesn't] resulting in some hilariously tortured interviews.... loved jazz etc. but then got into rock'n'roll through the troggs and MC5 etc, and was along in the NY ramones etc heyday.

cept if you try to reenact his wonderful life, people call you 'asshole' and things like that and say things like, 'your're not lester bangs', 'na not the last time i looked no' with spew hanging from ya goatee, better write a book then, i guess

He was probably waiting for them to put out Back In The USA or High Time. I dig those albums a lot more... Kick Out The Jams is pretty average I liked the live radio show version of the album that was released as Thunder Express it kills Kick Out The Jams. It has a really epic version of The Rolling Stones tune Empty Heart.

Lester Bangs wrote it how he saw it and even said sorry I was wrong! you don't get that much nowadays and if you do, you get slated twice as much as he did as most minds are conditioned, they can be uncleansed as it were.

Yah, grooved on High Time too. Kick out the jams has it for me over Back in the usa though. Not heard that radio show - was it part of that box set thing that was released a while back?
