The problem with all of those popular American bands is that they all sound the fuckin' SAME! I mean, they sound alright I suppose, but you only really need one CD, of say... the Offspring or something and there's no point in having any more!

And what sucks even more... is all the bands from, let's say... New Zealand or where ever that copy the same formula and also sound just the same...

I gotta go against the grain here - I really rate NOFX. It's not the band's fault that a million and one clueless Epitaph fashion-addicts latched onto what they do. I'm really into 'Coaster' - probably the band's best album for a while.
I have/did find it interesting how, for virtually the band's entire career, they were just about the most apolitical band in the whole Punk sphere but kinda got politicised over the last few albums.
I'd much rather listen to NOFX than PENNYWISE, OFFSPRING etc etc.
If any British readers remember a fucking great venue in Leeds called Duchess of York - that's where I saw NOFX the first time. A neat Pub/venue deal - this would be just before 'Punk In Drublic' I reckon. Great night....

Fuck, I just wrote out a reply to this and when I pushed "Submit" the screen went white with a little "this site is under maintenance" message in the corner! So I tried going back, but no, everything I'd written had gone! So much for that...

Sorry about the outage Mike - must be something to do with the forum's host server I guess. Not my fault!!
But......... I am wondering what you were gonna say... Couldn't possibly be that you prefer 'genuine' Punk like Good Charlotte over NOFX was it??

In a nutshell, I was saying that sub genres are just bands copying another band that did it first! Oi, anarcho, crust, whatever... or even punk in the first place! I said something like this in some other thread... punk means nothing anymore, it's just a joke, it's used to describe just about anything these days...

Cracks me up... all these "free thinking" people that have to copy and/or have to belong to some clicky little group to feel like they're someone/or belong somewhere... and then they spend all day self congratulating each other on their wonderfulness!

I say, just pick up your instruments and let out what comes naturally... Ha ha, fat chance! Baaa!

But back to NOFX... I don't think there's anything wrong with them as such, I even said "they sound alright I suppose"... I just find that most of these popular US bands sound the same, they're all seem to be writing to a formula... a formula that's tried and works and sells! Ha ha, they probably all got trained up at the same university...

When it comes to NOFX, I don't know what came first, whether it was the chicken or the egg! The first band I remember hearing I think, that had that sound was 7 Seconds, back in the 80's!

Even I listen to those bands sometimes when I'm in the mood... when I feel like listening to some well produced music to enjoy the quality of my stereo, rather than some rough and ready full on original stuff from the gutter... which is where the best music comes from, as far as I'm concerned! Fuck all this "go to unversity and get my punk degree" type bullshit... the whole midset of all that just makes me cringe! Any art is best left untainted... Ha ha, the amount of people who've said to me "I spent three years at university learning art and then I spent the next ten years trying to unlearn it"... And way too many of them are just fuckin' snobs anyway!

As for Good Charlotte and the like... their names don't even enter my psyche... I don't give them a thought or consideration for even a nano second! To me, they simply don't exist!

And I was going to try and do this in a nutshell?

So i done the polite thing and thanked her very much and we sat down and drunk vodka and listened to all 3 cds.She told me she only paid a dollar each for them and what a great bargin it was.I didn't have the heart to tell she'd been shafted

 i got banned form a certain msgeboard with such attitude's, how dare u talk about it and mention good charlotte, oh no i did it again and even referenced...anyway.

I only really like certain songs by nofx, i got a free ticket to a concert once and was haranged into going and was bored shitless, even sat down like a hippy at the side of the hall to show my canumdrum at this spectacular farce and my frustation and confusion at old drunk mates(as that who it's for, dummies) but nuthing wrong with dum fun, big words, big words, weird unbridled enthusiasm and i agree Mike, my Radio Show clearly points that out even now! that you're opinion is clearly right.

hi old schooler and all, inclusivity not exclusivity unless u shit in my nest aha

I don't mind the odd album every now and then Punk In Drublic is good fun. But I have to be in the mood mostly I cringe when I hear 'em. I'd rather listen to the later Dwarves albums they do that whole deal WAY better.

NOFX's hipster/fashionable activism is pretty hard to stomach its just the soundtrack to people that think things are gonna change because Obama is in office. Kinda the same league as RATM.
